How we list practices

This page explains where the data comes from and the rules that decide what appears. Data was last checked on 27 October 2026.

Source

Practice details are collected from public Google Maps business profiles using searches for dental practices across NSW. Each practice is placed using its own listed address, not the search that found it.

What is kept

Only businesses whose Google category or name shows a dental practice are kept. Dental laboratories, supply businesses, teeth-whitening studios and non-dental businesses are removed. Duplicate listings of the same practice at the same address are merged. 2,869 practices are currently listed.

Which pages exist

A suburb or region page exists only when it lists at least 5 practices and at least 3 kinds of real data (phone, website, opening hours, access features, booking link, Google rating) are present for half or more of them. Smaller suburbs are folded into their nearest region page. There are currently 27 region pages, 144 suburb pages, 10 category pages and 16 practice group pages.

Ratings and ordering

Ratings and review counts come from Google and are always labelled as Google data. Lists are ordered by Google review count by default. You can change the order to Google rating or A to Z. When ordering by rating, listings with fewer than 10 Google reviews come after the rest and are labelled. A list headed "Top rated on Google" shows practices rated 4.5 or higher from 50 or more Google reviews, ordered by rating and then review count. It is a data threshold taken from Google, shown with its date, not an editorial ranking or a recommendation. NSW Dentist Directory does not publish Google review text.

Opening hours and facilities

Opening hours are shown only when Google lists a full week that can be read without ambiguity. If any day cannot be read, the hours are left out instead of guessed. Facilities are shown only when Google marks them as present.

Groups and categories

A practice group page lists locations that share a brand name or website domain. It does not claim ownership. Treatment categories are the practice's own Google category; NSW Dentist Directory has not verified specialist registration.

Practice websites

For practices with their own website, the directory reads its public pages: the home page and the about, team, fee and contact pages found from the menu or, when the menu shows none, from the site's XML sitemap. It respects each site's robots.txt. Only what the site states is kept: sentences about location, history, qualifications and services offered, practitioner names with any AHPRA registration number the site prints, languages, facilities, equipment, payment options and official social profiles. Each item links to its source page and is not checked by NSW Dentist Directory. Wording that makes quality or benefit claims is dropped. A website shared by three or more listed practices is not read, because its pages describe the group, not one practice.

What is left out

This directory sets no prices, shows no photos and does not show Google review text. When a practice's own website lists fees, writes about Medicare or a health fund, or publishes patient comments, those items are shown in marked sections exactly as the website states them, with a link to the source page and the date read. They are not verified here and may be out of date. The directory itself does not say what a practice accepts.

Fee summaries

Where at least three practices list a fee for the same kind of item (for example a check-up and clean), a table shows the lowest, median and highest amount listed. Each practice counts once per item, using the lowest amount it lists. The amounts are the practices' own and are computed again at every build. Items differ between practices, so the table is a guide to what practices publish, not a price list.
